(Yes, I'm this cute. I mean... almost)
My name is Stacey Trombley, and I am a contest fiend. Obsessed. Like for real.
I find myself writing a query, a 35 word pitch and a twitter pitch before I even finish drafting a new novel. I'm honestly not sure what I'll do if I'm ever agented. Hope my agent likes pitches.
I've had an interesting run with contests. My first manuscript didn't have much luck. Really the only time I ever got noticed was during Pitch Wars last year when Fiona Mclaren picked me as an alternate (read the whole story here if you'd like http://hopelessya.blogspot.com/2012/12/about-contests-and-how-i-became-and.html). It was fantastic to be picked, to be noticed, to be loved. She helped me get my query, synopsis and first three chapters ready for agents. And I had some close calls. I had quite a few personal rejections with feedback. Feedback that made me realize the novel needed some work. The kind of work that requires a overhaul of the whole novel. Something I wasn't ready to do because I'd spent 4 years working on it and was just spent. I needed to move on. I plan on coming back to that MS, maybe even rewriting it completely. I don't know.
I had some better luck with my last novel, a YA contemporary, which made it into Pitch Madness and a few others, but that's out of the agent game right now (but not out of the game altogether. It's one of those *up in the air* things. Long story) That brings us to now. I'm entering pitch wars with an exciting MG novel titled DARCY DARKLING AND THE FORGOTTEN CITY!
Hmm, now what? How about some random facts.
Here is a little bit about the oddity that is me:
I got married when I was 19. I'm 25 now and still very, very happy.
I grew up in Baltimore Maryland. But I'm a huge Cincinnati Bengals fan (and became one long before I moved to Ohio. Besides I'm 4 hours from Cinci here, less than an hour from Cleveland and am in NO way a Browns fan) so I swear my current zip code has nothing to do with it.)
Can you guess which one I am?
My father is a magician/balloon artist.Yeah, like, that's his job, full time since I was about eight.
I went to my first third world country, for my first missions trip, when I was twelve years old. Without a single family member. I swear, there was not one moment that I seconded guessed this decision. I was just along for the ride. And It. Was. Awesome.
I didn't date in high school just because I didn't feel like it. I actually got the nickname "Fort knox" because I was impossible to "get" (I know it doesn't make complete sense, but this was high school guys were talking about. Just go with it). I'll admit it, I was a total prude and I'm proud of it.
YET.... I wrote a book about a 16 year old prostitute (the fate of the book is another story all together. Maybe one day I'll actually get to tell it).
Go figure.
(I'm the one in the back with the short hair)
I've got lots more, but, those seem the most fun. So I'll stop there :)
Good luck with your submission, Stacey!
