Filled Under:

Tag, you're it.

-What is the working title of your book?

Whispers of Disaster

-Where did the idea for your book come from?

It was first inspired by the forest. I liked to look out into the woods and wonder what was out there. What if there was a secret group of … something out there, always hidden. Then I thought about the centaurs from HP and how they believed in fate and reading the stars. So I took it another step forward. What if this group no only believed in fate, they believed in causing the bad things they believe are destiny. Car accidents, fires, wars. Death.

Fun, huh? lol

- Which genre does your book fall under?

It’s YA fantasy

- Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

This one is tough. When I first started writing I thought a lot about it but not since, and my characters have changed a lot. I used to like Emma Watson for Taylor, but I think mostly because I just love her lol.  So I’ll have you know that this question got me pretty obsessive. I searched until a found my Taylor and Chase! I ended up picking two non-white actors. Naomi Scott as Taylor http://www.listal.com/viewimage/3354952h

Then I have two that are pretty set. Taylor’s younger brother, Max Thieriot, though he’s getting older now (and he doesn’t seem to be the same race as my actress for Taylor lol,)

And lastly. Cynthia, my antagonist. This actress, in part, inspired this character. http://www.starscolor.com/14944-emilie-de-ravin/ She IS Cynthia.

Okay, took me like a half hour to answer that question. On to the next one!

- Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

I’d like to publish it traditionally. If that doesn’t work out I’ll self publish it. I won’t ever feel good with this novel sitting in a drawer. I love it too much.

- What is the one-sentence short synopsis of your book?

Taylor discovers she is a legacy of a group who believe they are ordained to cause terrible disasters to the world. When she refuses, she finds herself on the run, hunted by her own family.

Okay, technically that’s cheating since it’s two, but it’s 35 words, so it should count J It’s also the pitch I used for #pitchmadess

- How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

One month. Yes, I’m a nano-er, or I was that year at least. I added another 10k a month  later, but I had 50k and “the end” written so it counts.

- What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

A sympathetic and intriguing character, a romance, family, violence, diversity (characters from Brazil, Belize, Taiwan, Mexico. And part of the book is set in central America), great friendship, and awesome super powers. Taylor can control the weather, and her aunt Cynthia can control the weather. Chase has a fun power too, but that’s a secret J

It’s kind of an awesome book, just sayin’.

  1. I love that you picked non-white actors for your MCs. Naomi Scott is beautiful, and Walter Perez is pretty hot. Plus I love Emilie De Ravin, and can see her making an excellent antagonist.

I feel so lucky that I'm going to get to critique this story, because honestly it sounds bad-ass. Very intriguing concept. I can't wait to get started on it. :D
